Lansing Housing Commission has left people in unsafe housing for years

My interest in “Boards and Commissions” stemmed from the Lansing Housing Commission sale of the “scattered houses” in Lansing. It was the first time I really understood the phrase “poverty is a policy decision.” I watched people in meeting after meeting express their concerns but end up ignored. I watch things just happen with no transparency or equity. I watched generational wealth in our community disappear even more.

This list represents what I would like to study and understand to see if it should be revised to help with the overall mission.

Appointments and rotation

  • City Council Members appoint
  • Should there be a maximum number of years one can serve
  • Conflicts of interest

Hiring of the Executive Directors

# of members

  • Might correlate with how city council becomes structured, e.g. number of wards

Paid positions (capacity of those below ALICE)

  • People who live below the ALICE threshold will have a harder time of serving because they cannot afford to
